PDP Ward congress in Ogbadibo: the Flash Points Today is set - TopicsExpress

PDP Ward congress in Ogbadibo: the Flash Points Today is set aside nationwide by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP for special ward congress to elect delegates that would conduct primary elections for aspirants into House of Assembly, House of Rep, House of Senate and Governorship positions by the end of this month. Unlike before where all the ward excos were allowed to vote at primaries, the new electoral guideline by the party says only 3 special delegates shall be elected from various wards today as special delegates. Nomination form was supposed to be issued to intending delegates but in the case of Benue State, no single form has been issued. When prospective delegates approached the state secretariat of the party, the leadership of the party refused to sell forms but some of them who know their rights had gone to the national secretariat of the party in Abuja and the forms were issued there. Addressing stake holders at the expanded exco of the party in Makurdi on Thursday, the Governor shed more light on why the forms were kept and we await if they would actualise it. The Governor enjoined the stakeholders to follow peace and make sure consensus is reached at various wards. But in a case where there is no agreement, option A4 should be adopted through open ballot system. In Ogbadibo LGA, there appears to be tension due to disparities in interests of stakeholders. There are 3 governorship aspirants from Ogbadibo and all of them are strategising to outdo one another. The 2 aspirants for House of Reps also come from Ogbadibo and they all have litany of supporters and foot soldiers. These and many other reasons have made todays congress a do or die affair! The following council wards in Ogbadibo are considered as flash points and security agents should please take note: 1. Ai-Oodo ward 1; 2. Ai-Oono ward 3; 3. Orokam ward 2; 4. Ehaje ward 1; 5. Itabono ward 1; 6. Itabono ward 2. The above wards and some others are likely to experience crisis due to the pre-congress survey carried out before now. While we want to believe that consensus should be reached to produce unanimous candidacy through negotiations to avoid rancor, we still want to advise that democracy should be allowed to have its way where necessary. The idea of sitting down in a parlour to write names of delegates by only one person is not only undemocratic, but it is also anti-people and must be rejected. Please stay connected for more updates!
