PDP governors apply for new party, Voice of the People Source: Premium Times Published:Augus t 26,2013 At least five governors of the Peoples Democratic Party governors have applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission to register a new party to be called Voice of the People. Governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto) and Chibuike Amaechi (Rivers), are said to be behind the move to break away from the PDP. The five governors have been embroiled in months of wrangling with the leadership of the PDP and the presidency. The party is facing what appears its most turbulent period since 1999. The application for the new party came a week after INEC registered a new party, Peoples Democratic Movement, a party linked to former vice president, Atiku Abubakar. Mr. Abubakar’s departure from the PDP is bound to inflict a blow, however small, on the party’s numbers, particularly in the north east. But the governors’ decision to leave the ruling party, will undoubtedly be the party’s most devastating in its history. The PDP will be left with 18 governors if the governors leave, and their numerical value of their respective states, will be telling on PDP’sfortune to secure a new term as the ruling party in 2015. Reports said the application for the Voice of the People has been filed and INEC will soon take a decision as the governors and other unnamed backers speed to finalize needed requirements for registration. Voice of the people! Will you be with them 2015??
