PDP supporters block road to Wamakko, Kwankwaso in Sokoto The supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday placed a barricade on the road which forced Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko of Sokoto State and his Kano State counterpart, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to abandon their vehicles and walk down almost 100 meters to attend a wedding ceremony. The two walked to the residence of former President Shehu Shagari, where the wedding Fatiha of Hafsat, the daughter of the Sokoto State Deputy Governor, who is also the PDP leader in the state, Barrister Mukhtari, took place. Also affected by the barricade was the father to the groom, Senator Kabiru Gaya, who came along with the governors. Wamakko represented the groom, Fauad, while Kwankwaso stood in for the bride in the colourful ceremony which was attended by politicians from different political parties. The trouble started when supporters of the PDP were informed about the arrival of the two Governors. They decided to park their vehicles on their way. The security agents watched the scene helplessly. As soon as the governors arrived, they were welcomed by the thunderous shouting of “Up PDP” and “Nigeria sai mai fitsari a tsaye”. It took the intervention of their security attachees before the governors could even enter the residence where they were welcomed by the deputy governor. Wamakko received the bride’s hand for the groom after N100,000 was announced as dowry, which Kwankwaso paid.
