PDP to APC: address other issues raised by Australian negotiator September 3, 2014 No Comment 41 Views The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to address other issues raised by Dr. Stephen Davis, the Australian negotiator who in a recent interview named some prominent Nigerians as the sponsors of the Boko Haram sect. Speaking through its National Publicity secretary Wednesday, PDP urged the opposition party to respond to other issues raised by Dr. Davis rather than focusing only on the sponsors of Boko Haram. It would be recalled that APC’s Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, had on Tuesday called on the federal government to prosecute all those mentioned as sponsors of the deadly sect. But according to the PDP spokesperson, APC cannot exonerate itself from “the blames of promoting insurgency in the country” since some of Dr. Davis revelation also indicted its members. Metuh recalled that in his widely publicised interview, the Australian negotiator made it clear that some politicians opposed to the leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan were offering tacit support to Boko Haram. He said, “If not to achieve the self-serving purpose of exonerating the APC, why would Oyegun’s statement choose to be silent on the revelation by Davis that some people opposed to President Goodluck Jonathan used their connections to Boko Haram to frustrate his efforts? “We also wonder why the APC has chosen to ignore some of the revealing aspects of Davis’ interview concerning Boko Haram’s funding and sponsorship. Is it because they are not favourable to them?” The PDP spokesman further alleged that Oyegun’s statement was a decoy to frustrate genuine effort at finding solution to the security challenges facing the nation to the advantage of the APC. Metuh said the PDP’s view of the opposition party as one which promotes radical ideology had not changed and that its leaders had been promoting insurgency and acts of terrorism through their actions and utterances. He also noted APC kicked against moves by the British Parliament to investigate its involvement with terrorist elements as well as to divert attention from their meetings outside the shores of our country in their bid to promote insurgency in Nigeria.
