PEACE I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace… John 16:33 Peace is what people desire, but they want a peace that will just allow them to be comfortable and not have conflict. How often do we hear that people desire for our whole world to be at peace and not have any war on this planet? Some still believe we are evolving to that place where there will be no conflicts. But all they really desire is for personal comfort. It will not happen! Jesus gave the prescription for peace, but the majority of the world does not want to accept His peace agreement. It does not match what their idea of peace will include. According to the verse above in context Jesus mentioned three promises. The first is stated above. We can have peace in Jesus. Through Jesus we are at peace with God and can also have inner peace. Before a person comes to Jesus they are actually an enemy of God (Romans 5:1-12). Second, Jesus promises us that “in the world we will have tribulation” (John 16:33). As long as this world exists there will be conflicts within and conflicts without. That is the fallen nature of man. Those who believe there will be world-wide peace believe a lie. Third, we are told to “take courage” because Jesus has overcome the world (John 16:33) and when we trust Jesus we are overcomers of the world as well (I John 5:4). So, we have peace in Jesus, conflicts in the world, but we are overcomers of the world in Jesus. Great promises! Are you experiencing the peace that Jesus offers? When conflicts swirl around us are we displaying courage? Those in Jesus are already overcomers of the world, they are already victorious! Oh, that we would live with that in mind! Thank You Father for the peace Jesus gives in the midst of conflict. I am grateful to know that I am victorious in Jesus. May I live life with this in mind and honor You by the way I live.
