PEOPLE OF MANDERA CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE……………………….. This morning at exactly 08:54 a.m a remotely controlled Improvised Explosive device (IEDs) exploded at Rhamu Bus stage in Mandera town. Apparently the explosion seems to target the convoy of the Governor heading to his office from his home. Fortunately the convey is well past the blast site when the blast occurred, ostensibly the Governor’s official car and his security detail are about 500 meters from the blast site when it erupted. The Governor’s official car was in a company of what appears to be two chase cars fitted with siren. Its only in mandera where security details use fully closed cabin land cruiser 70 series, this let many wonder how his security lads and ladies can counter an attack while in a cage that does not have any semblance to armoured personnel carrier (APC) by form and design, such defense attempts defies logic, swims against the tide of reason, and is outright a suicidal mission. The blast damaged a by passing police car, injuring one of its occupant which since have received medical attention and discharged. This is not the first assassination attempt on the life of the Governor, some few month ago 2 rocket propelled grenades have damaged part of the perimeter fence of his office after unknown armed militia staged attack on the county headquarters. The police has claimed to have launched thorough investigations in those criminal events to unearth those behind those cowardly, wicked and criminal acts, but till date nothing is forth-coming. This makes one wonder whether its incompetence, unprofessionalism or negligence on part of the mandera police and other administrative law enforcement apparatus or have they been compromised by the dark forces, it is still grey dilemma, no one can tell. The residents of mandera can tolerate some things but if it zeros on the wellbeing of their county government they will defend it to the last one. An assault on the Governor is an assault on the Sovereignty of the people of Mandera county and their will not take it laying down. For the safety of the mandera county Governor, iam making the following recommendation 1. For long term measures, the resident of mandera county should petition the county assembly to pass a bill to the effect of changing the mandera county headquarters from Mandera Town to more secure and strategic of either Takaba or Wargadud. 2. The people of mandera county should petition the National Defence Council, so that Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) shall handle the security detail of the Governor for time-being. 3.The people of mandera county should petition the office of the President to initiate investigation into the conduct of the police and administrative entities in the light of the attacks.
