PERFECT PEACE You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. - Isaiah 26:3 The Dutch Philosopher, Baruch Spinoza, once said, Peace is not an absence of war, it is a virtue, a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice. This is evidence of what Jesus said concerning the Christian life, that in this world, trouble is inevitable. If this is the reality, how then is the Christian supposed to cope? The answer is simple and is provided in the Scripture, stay your mind on God; trust Him. It simply means acknowledge that you cant deal with your troubles by yourself but only by the strength that God provides which is His perfect peace. When Jesus told His disciples that there will be troubles in this world, He also told them to take heart because He had already overcome. It is therefore essential that when the troubles come, we take them to Him who overcomes, that we trust Him to deal with the troubles. Sometimes when I have sat down in retrospection of my life, I have come to the realisation of how much trouble I have had to endure and I amaze at the relative calmness with which I have dealt with these problems. Then the truth hits me, there is no way I could have dealt with all of the troubles by myself. I was only able to endure them because I stayed my mind on God throughout, because I trusted in His strength to endure. It is only when we stay our minds on our troubles that our peace is replaced by the sorrows of our troubles. Your peace will be perfected only when you stay your mind on God and trust Him to deal with your troubles. PRAYER: Lord I bring all my troubles and burdens to You that You may make them light and perfect my peace.
