PERHAPS THE MOST IMPORTANT LINK IVE EVER SHARED==> To The Fit Woman At Marketplace Foods by Joey Schleicher: huffingtonpost/joey-schleicher/to-the-fit-woman-at-marketplace-foods_b_6277494.html Let me count the ways I LOVE LOVE LOVE this column that I believe is a MUST-READ for anyone who cares about the subject of healthy living! You see, Jo has lost over 100 pounds eating a real foods-based Paleo diet with lots of clean foods to heal her body from the years of damage that has been done. The problem for her (at least from the standpoint of the perception of others) is that shes still not where she needs to be in her weight and health for people to think shes done anything positive for herself. Can I tell you how incredibly infuriating this position is?! Shes down TRIPLE DIGITS! Whats interesting about the timing of this article published on the Huffington Post is Ive been thinking about this exact issue quite a bit lately with those who foolishly think anyone who isnt the perfect role model for others to look at shouldnt be talking about health. Oh really?! I dont know about you, but Id rather hear what somebody like Jo has to say about nutrition and health as a former 300-pound woman who took back control of her own health and is working through this perhaps harder than anyone else out there than to be lectured by some fitness twig whos never had to endure the struggle, ridicule, and hard work that it takes just to be where Jo is today. Quite frankly, this notion that our health is whittled down and judged almost entirely on our current weight must come to an end. Television shows like The Biggest Loser have taught our culture that your health is only about one number--your weight on the scale. But the true state of health comes down to so many other factors that are much more important--blood sugar control, low fasting insulin levels, C-Reactive Protein (the key inflammation marker in the body) under 1.0, triglyceride/HDL ratio of 1.0 or below, minimized small, dense LDL particles and oxidized LDL, and so much more. Unfortunately, none of these key health markers are seen on the outside by those who stand in judgment of people like Jo. And so shes forced to endure the kind of stereotypical, snarky comments that she did in this supermarket. Well, all I can say to these holier-than-thou idiots who would rather point the finger of blame than to offer up kudos for a job well done for people like Jo is mind your own freakin business! Shes a rock star in my book and Im grateful shes vulnerable enough to put herself out there and share her story to help others like her who are on this journey. What do you think of Jo and anyone else who blogs about healthy living who dont exactly have the look that everyone seems to think you need to have in order to speak out about nutrition, fitness and health? Do people like her play an important role in this discussion or should they be shunned and shut out of the conversation? What say YOU?
