PERIODIC OBSERVATIONS Get Life! Tuesday 01.28.14 Christianity is a religion that you could not have guessed. It is not the sort of thing that anyone would make up... ~ C. S. Lewis Yes, Im a Christian. We hear that line every now and then. At school. At the work place. You hear it from among your friends and your peers. We hear it so often that one can no longer see the difference. But can we really tell who is and who is not by their behavior? While those who claim to be Christians are proper and polite people, nice neighbors, tend their yards, obey traffic rules, honest in their dealings, not cheat on their taxes, read their Bibles, attend church regularly, and are involved in community concerns – these do not constitute Christianity. No good deeds can make one a Christian. You cannot be physically born into Christianity. Only when Christ is a living presence and persuasion in their lives are they Christians. Only when they yoke themselves in Christ does one become Christian. Only when they receive Jesus can they become a part of the family of God. John referring to Jesus said, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. (John 1:12 NKJV) Yet there are those, on the other hand, who claim Christ but the evidence of their faith escapes them. Remember what the apostle Paul said? ...anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! (2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT) Yes indeed, in Christ you have life – new Life! John said, In Him was life... (John 1:4) Life gives us what it wills. Of life, the Buddhists say escape it. Hindus say keep coming back until you get it right. Moslems say it is the will of Allah, bear it. But Christ says you have life. I have come that you may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10). Living for Jesus, a life that is true, Striving to please Him in all that I do; Yielding allegiance, glad hearted and free, This is the pathway of blessing for me. ~ Thomas O. Chisholm
