PERPETUAL PROGRESS When problems occur or when certain challenges are presented, most people seem to lack the capacity to be objective. They do not take a 360 degree perspective. They do not look at the issue in a holistic manner. They focus on one facet and, above all they forget to suggest solutions. They lack the courage and honesty, to explore how they have contributed to what theyre going through. Most of the time, they naturally, merely think of a restatement of the problem (challenge) in their own way (they revise history), or they focus on who to blame. Thus, theres really no progress. In relationships, for example, if youre a mature listener, youd discover that, most of the time, both parties, are to blame. Most of the time. But, John tries to make you believe that Jane is a demon and vice-versa. This approach or tendency is grossly immature. It should be reserved for 5 year-olds. I am innocent, shes guilty...may be true, but its also lame. Its not focused on solutions. Itd naturally make the other-party defensive. What we should be focused on is, the welfare and advancement of both parties, or all concerned. The focus, should be on progress, and that will come, when both parties, transcend the fixation on who to blame, and jointly accept responsibility for the success or failure of their relationship. They should stop expecting from others what they cannot give to them. I smile, when I talk with some people, who think, its okay, for them, to be unfaithful, but they expect their partners, to be faithful. I smile. Its comical, but often, while one party is subtly suggesting that their partner is/was the great stumbling block to a harmonious relationship, the calm, objective observer can see their own shortcomings etched boldly across their foreheads. The impartial observer smiles with understanding. Life rewards us based on what we devote time to, it is reciprocal. So, will it be blames, fights, self-worship, or an eternal pact with nobility? Will it be an unrelenting quest for progress, in all facets of our lives? Will it be genuine love for all creatures? In that, lies the secret to perpetual progress, for all. Michael Newman
