PERRY MASON 1963 GUEST STAR KARYN KUPCINETS 1963 DEATH STILL REMAINS A MYSTERY TODAY This mornings episode of Perry Mason shown on Memorable Entertainment -- ME-TV -- The Case of the Capering Camera(1964) is among a group of episodes that received a late syndication release by Viacom. It, therefore, has been viewed fewer times, over the years, than most episodes. Within that story, is another bizarre, tragic, unsolved mystery: almost exactly fifty years ago -- the death of young actress Karyn Kupcinet -- daughter of Chicago Sun-Times newspaper sports columnist Irv Kupcinet -- and whether -- in any way -- it could have been connected to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, just a few weeks before her own death, on November 28, 1963. Irv Kupcinet died in 2003 -- two years after his wife, Essees death. For more information about this case, you can visit Wikipedia, though many allegations about the actress life were strongly denied by her family. Karyn Kupcinet (March 6, 1941 – November 28, 1963) was an American stage, film and television actress. She was the only daughter of Chicago columnist and television personality Irv Kupcinet. Kupcinet had a brief acting career during the early 1960s. Six days after the JFK assassination, her body was found at her West Hollywood, California home. It has been theorized that Kupcinets death, officially ruled a homicide, was connected to the assassination or was the result of an accidental fall. In the 1960s, Irv Kupcinet publicly dismissed the theories linking his daughter to the presidents death. In 1992 The Today Show referred briefly to her alleged connection to the assassination, which prompted Kupcinet to describe the television broadcast as an atrocious outrage and calumny. Karyn Kupcinets murder remains officially unsolved. Kupcinets last onscreen appearance was on Perry Mason in the role of Penny Ames entitled, The Case of the Capering Camera. The episode aired on CBS on January 16, 1964, nearly two months after her death.[2] Ironically, it was the final on-screen appearance of Ray Collins as Lt. Tragg.
