PERSONAL UPDATE from the CONGRESSMAN: Last night I addressed a group of the Tarrant County Republican Party called the Lincoln Council. In my brief remarks, I outlined an immigration reform bill I hope to introduce soon. Two of the Council members present aggressively challenged me to do more to address enforcing the border right now. I agree with that position, but I did ask them for their ideas on how to do so. They did not offer any. The reports they have circulated since then are misleading and self-serving...I support strong border enforcement. I oppose amnesty. I do not support allowing unaccompanied minor children to come into our country and stay here. I do support however, an integrated, balanced reform package that includes border enforcement, visa reform, guest worker reform, and a program to differentiate between those illegal immigrants who have come to work and those who have come to take advantage of our many federal welfare programs. NO individual under my proposal who has come into this country without proper documentation will be allowed to stay without being reviewed and having to pay fines, etc. Many will be sent back to their country of origin. I will have more to say soon, and look foreword to a discussion of my bill.
