PETALING JAYA: Former MCA president Chua Soi Lek is rather reluctant to cut his ties with the party. At a press conference after the party elections he ridiculed new president Liow Tiong Lai for not honouring an agreement made before the polls. This time around he is questioning whether Chor Chee Heung is the right man for the MCA disciplinary board chairman’s position. “I am very thankful to the newly-appointed MCA disciplinary board chairman Chor Chee Heung for his advice that I should be more discreet on party matters. “However, I would like to remind Chor that a disciplinary board chairman should be someone who can discharge his duty fairly and impartially,” Chua said in a statement today. Chua however question whether Chor is the right person for the position since he is Liow’s ardent supporter. “As a former colleague, I know well that Chor has been involved in partisan politics throughout his entire political career and that he is a strong supporter to Liow Tiong Lai. “So can he perform as a disciplinary board chairman in a fair and impartial manner?,” he added. Chua also took a swing at the new MCA line-up, saying that it was not without any defects. “While I respect the new party leadership elected by the central delegates, I must tell Chor that it is not a know-all and make-no-mistake leadership. “When an agreement is not honoured by someone, it tells a lot about the character of the person who signed the agreement,” said Chua. According to Chua, Chor should also address the new MCA chief with the same advice. “This is a perception game, let’s hope that Chor will not chair a kangaroo court, I have my experience in dealing with a kangaroo court and I wish that this will not happen again. “Chor should also remind Liow supporter to be discreet about party matters too as it takes two to tango,” he said. Chua was responding to Chor’s comment in urging him to voice his unhappiness by using the party channels. Chua, in his first media appearance since the party polls claimed that Liow had violated their agreement to allocate the secretary-general post, three central committee posts, and three state chairmen posts to leaders from Chua’s factions should Liow be elected as the party president. The agreement, said Chua, was witnessed by several individuals from within and outside the party, and they had even suggested several candidates for the secretary-general’s post. Chua said he was disappointed that Liow did not honour the agreement. “Before the elections he kept citing a Chinese proverb that the king should not joke, but now I don’t know whether he is joking with me or not, god only knows,” Chua said.
