PETERSEN MEDIA- With a span of monstrous races on the horizon, Kerry Madsen showed that his team is up to the challenge, as he picked up two third place finishes and one second over the last week. “It was really a great week for our team,” Madsen said. “We were in contention all three nights, and one night we even came from the 19th starting spot.” Wednesday night saw the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’ check into the Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD, and Madsen opened the night up by timing his American Racing/Keneric Racing entry in 19th fastest. Finishing fourth in his heat race, Madsen earned the transfer into the feature event, where he lined up deep in the field, in the 19th position. When the race went green, Madsen essentially went where there was open real estate in charge to front. By the 19th lap he had worked into the eighth spot, and as he kept picking off cars, he worked into the third spot on the 29th lap, where he would go on to finish. “I just had to go where they were not,” he explained. “I was on the bottom there for a while, and then though the top might be okay, so I went up there and it was really good.” Friday and Saturday night the scene shifted to the Dodge City Raceway Park, and Madsen continued ride in his groove. Timing in fourth fastest aboard his Morrison Racing Engines/KCP No. 29, ‘The Mad Man’, finished third in his heat, putting him in the night’s Dash. Finishing fifth in the Dash, Madsen would line up in the fifth spot for the feature event. When the race got underway, Madsen worked into the third spot as he chased after the lead duo of Daryn Pittman and Paul McMahan. All race long Madsen stayed glue to McMahan’s entry, and as he tried everything to sneak by, he simply couldn’t get past him and took the third place finish. “I thought we were faster than (Paul) McMahan, but we just couldn’t get an opening to get around him,” he added. “We got to him a couple times and almost caused a disaster for ourselves so I opted just to finish where we were.” Back in Dodge City, KS again on Saturday night, Madsen started the feature event on the front row, and on a lap two restart, he surged into the lead, with Daryn Pittman chasing after. Getting in traffic on the eighth lap, Pitman tried to make a move, but the St. Marys, NSW native held strong as he continued to run a strong race. A lap 17 restart saw the two drivers drag race into the first turn, but this time it was Pittman who got the top spot, but Madsen did not let the driver out of his sights. Looking for his opportunity to get back to the lead in traffic, Madsen nearly made the pass in the race’s closing laps, but came up just short. “We made the right decision on the lap 17 restart, I just got beat,” He said. “It’s sprint car racing and it happens. We have a huge week coming up, the bosses are coming up, so we are happy with how strong we have been and are hoping to run well in front of them.” 2014 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-52, Wins-6, Top-5’s-24, Top 10’s-40 ON TAP: The American Racing team return to action on Wednesday in Lima, OH for the Brad Doty Classic, before they hit the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH for the Knight before the Royal on Friday and the King’s Royal on Saturday night.
