PF Worried About Campaigning without Sata The Patriotic Front is in serious panic ahead of the September 11, 2014 parliamentary by-elections because the party chief campaigner President Michael Sata may not be well enough to undertake the campaigns. This has prompted party Secretary General Wynter Kabimba to devise mechanisms to make sure that nominations do not take place on August 11,2014 a source within the PF has disclosed. Wynter Kabimba’s devised mechanisms may not however yield any result according to the source because of technicalities and time. The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set August 11,2014 as the date for filling in of nomination papers and September 11,2014 as the date of elections for five parliamentary seats that were earlier nullified by the Supreme Court. The five parliamentary seats that are supposed to undergo the by-elections are Kasenengwa, Vubwi, Solwezi Central, Zambezi West and Mkushi South. “The party is in a very serious panic. Especially the SG (Secretary General) you know our best campaigner is H.E (His Excellency) and his health may not permit him to undertake campaigns so it will be a big blow to the party. The SG is doing everything possible to delay the elections again but time and technicalities may not allow,” the source said. The source said it was even more difficult for parliamentary seats that had Members of Parliament (MP’s) who had won the petitions in the High Court. “You know the Supreme Court ruled that it is up to the petitioners to take back the matters to the High Court in terms of reports to the ECZ, but how does a Judge who ruled that the MP was duly elected then write a report to ECZ. This is academical. We just have to let the elections go ahead,” the source said. zambiareports/2014/07/26/pf-worried-campaigning-without-sata/
