PFC staff are studying the political agreement just announced at Stormont and seeking briefings on key details. Once we have clarified these, we will be in a better place to respond. Just to let you know immediately, however, that our legal advisers tell us that the agreement will not affect the new inquests that have already been ordered by the Attorney General which will proceed exactly as before. We also understand from our lawyers that the agreement will NOT affect those families who have begun civil proceedings against the Chief Constable and Ministry of Defence etc. We also understand that the agreement affects all 32 counties and will require legislation in Dail Eireann. The agreement has come at a difficult time - just as the holidays begin - but we will be keeping a close watching brief on developments. The best advice, at this moment, is for us to find out first exactly what the agreement means for all of us trying to establish the truth.
