PHAILIN CYCLONE LATEST ALERT Some of you FB friends have enquired about Phailin since it is heading towards Jharkhand at about 20 Kmph, with winds that were up to 200 kms/ph, after causing devastating damage in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Although the number of deaths is much fewer than had been anticipated, thanks to the Early Warning Device and a fantastic relief effort by Central and State Governments, thousands of people have been made homeless, having lost everything, including homes, crops and animals. One million people have been evacuated and will have to find shelter and support. Happily, a down-grading of Phailin has been reported to the level of a Low Depression with slower winds. You are concerned about my adopted Indian daughter, Pamela, who is Director of Mothers Love Welfare Centre. I managed to get through to her by phone today (Tuesday 15 October, at 3pm Adelaide time) and she reported that, as yet. there has been no heavy rain in Daltonganj area , so all is O.K. for now.
