PHL CONSULATE GENERAL IN MILAN HOLDS CONSULTATION MEETING WITH FILIPINO LEADERS IN BERGAMO 18 July 2014 – Philippine Consul General Marichu Mauro met on July 15 with the Filipino association leaders and Fr. Ronnie Lacanienta, Chaplain of the Filipino Community in Bergamo. Bergamo is about 40-kilometer northeast of Milan and the second most visited city in Lombardy after Milan. The Filipino community warmly expressed their excitement over the visit of the Consul General, who was the first Consul General to visit Bergamo since 2006. The informal meeting started with the Consul General briefing the Filipino community on some changes in the passport regulations and mobile consular service of the Philippine Consulate General in Milan. The sentiments of the Filipino community matched the consistent request for a mobile consular service in Bergamo. Consul General Mauro said the Consulate General would find a way to schedule a consular mobile service to Bergamo within the year. The meeting was also a reminder for the Filipino community to constantly coordinate with the Consulate General for their cultural and skills development activities. Consul General Mauro encouraged them to strengthen youth activities by promoting the learning of Filipino language and values to second-generation Filipinos in Bergamo. Most of the Filipinos in Bergamo work in factories of food manufacturing, car parts and small appliances, and in the cleaning business. Bergamo is home to more than 2,000 Filipinos. END
