PHL EMBASSY IN CANBERRA COMMEMORATES 118TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF DR. JOSE P. RIZAL 13 January 2015 – Philippine Charge d’Affaires, a.i. Minister Nina P. Cainglet and First Secretary and Consul Jim Tito B. San Agustin led the staff of the Philippine Embassy in commemorating the 118th death anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal on 29 December 2014 at the Embassy Chancery. The commemoration started with a flag raising ceremony at 8:00 a.m., with the Embassy personnel joined by Charge d’Affaires Cainglet’s family and other kababayans who arrived from other states for consular services. A simple program followed, with flower offerings by Charge d’Affaires Cainglet and Consul San Agustin before the bust of Dr. Jose Rizal and the reading of Dr. Rizal’s poem entitled, ”Isang Alaala Ng Aking Bayan” by Communications and Records Officer Mr. Ruel Peñaflorida. After the reading, the Embassy personnel shared their translation and interpretation of the verses of the said poem. To sum up, Charge d’Affaires Cainglet underscored the heroism of Dr. Rizal in living his life for nationhood. She encouraged everyone to emulate in their lives and profession the values and teachings of Dr. Rizal and also to pass them on to the children and the generations to follow. The commemoration ended with a breakfast salu-salo of native Filipino food such as sinangag, daing, longanisa at itlog. END
