PHL EMBASSY IN NAIROBI HOLDS MOBILE CONSULAR SERVICES, OVERSEAS VOTERS REGISTRATION IN MAHE ISLAND, SEYCHELLES 02 July 2014 - Upon the request of the Filipino community in Seychelles, the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya conducted mobile consular services and overseas voters registration from June 18 to 19 in Mahe Island, Seychelles. This was the first consular outreach conducted in Seychelles for 2014. More than 60 people availed of various consular services, such as renewal of passports, legalization and authentication of documents, registration and legal consultations. Forty-six (46) were processed for overseas voters registration, including new registrants, and those applying for transfer, certifications and reactivation. The Seychellois Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) also met with the Embassy team on June 20 to seek clarification on the procedure and requirements for hiring Filipino workers to Seychelles. The team briefed the MFA officials on the flow of processing employment documents including important Philippine government rules and regulations in recruiting Filipino workers. The team also attended the 116th Philippine Independence Day celebration organized by the Filipino community in Seychelles on June 21. There are around 900 Filipinos living and working in Seychelles. Around 85% of them are employed by Indian Ocean Tuna (IOT), 10% are working in hospitality industries and around 5% are professionals working as accountants and office managers. END
