PHLPost launches Tindog Pinoy! Haiyan stamps to mark Pinoys’ resiliency Different inspiring stories of comfort and aid, faith and hope, survival and perseverance prompted PHLPost to release “Tindog Pinoy! Stamps” in commemoration of the optimism and resiliency of Filipinos amid the devastation brought by Supertyphoon Haiyan, with the local name Yolanda, a year ago. According to Eric Tagle, Business Lines Manager of PHLPost and Vice Chair of PHLPost Stamp Committee, Tindog Pinoy! Haiyan Stamps celebrate hope and pay homage to the camaraderie at the face of a destructive calamity. “The stamps feature an illustration of a growing plant symbolizing new life from the hands of different countries that helped the Philippines, and a rising sun symbolizing hope. “Tindog” is Visayan for “rise” – describing the tenacity of Filipinos during those challenging times,” Tagle said. The stamps will be presented to Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez in a program to be hosted by the City Government on November 8, exactly one year after the destructive landfall of Haiyan. Tagle said “About 20 set of the same stamps, which are packaged in souvenir frames, will be presented by the Tacloban City Government to local and international donors who have extended aid to the city, as their means of expressing their appreciation for the support to rehabilitate and restore the normalcy in the lives of the locals.” PHLPost will release these special stamps as part of the National Stamp Collecting Month (NSCM) series of activities. November was declared NSCM by Presidential Proclamation 494 signed by then President Fidel V. Ramos. This year’s month long celebration is themed “PHLPost: Going Beyond Traditional” and coincides with the Postal Awareness Week. About 104,000 copies of the Tindog Pinoy! Stamps, in four designs, were printed using imported unwatermarked paper, in PhP10.00 denomination. The stamp artist is Rodine C. Teodoro. These are available at the Post Shop, Philately and Museum Division, Manila Central Post Office, Door 203, Liwasang Bonifacio, 1000 Manila and at all PHLPost Regional Offices.
