PHONE TOPIC. Judge Andre van Niekerk , is today hearing the matter between trade union AMCU and gold producers in the Labour Court in Johannesburg. The Chamber of Mines is trying to prevent an AMCU strike in the gold sector. The chamber approached the Labour Court after AMCU issued strike notices in January. The union issued strike notices to employers in the gold and platinum sectors demanding a basic monthly salary of 12-thousand-500-rand. Gold producers have concluded a wage agreement with the National Union of Mineworkers which is the majority union in the gold sector. on our phone topic today we ask: What would be the impact of AMCU expanding its strike action into the gold sector?
