PHOTOGRAPHY MYTH :: PROFESSIONALS HAVE A SECRET FORMULA AND ARE ALWAYS CONFIDENT Ive noticed during my photography workshops that one of the biggest obstacles aspiring artists face is in assuming there is a secret formula professionals have that allows them to create amazing art... that the young artist just needs to keep working until they get this formula and then, and only then, will they be able to create amazing art. Ive been creating art full-time for nearly two decades. And after 20 years my biggest fear as an artist is still that one day the world is going to wake up and realize that I dont actually know what Im doing. That they will find me out and see my art as superficial without meaning or worth. And my real fear in this is that when they make this realization that it will mean that I, Mustafa Davis the individual, have no worth. I still wake up some mornings and doubt myself. When I sign a major contract with a client Im usually scared to death I wont be able to pull it off. However, somehow through the process of creating I find my voice and muster up the courage to produce art and share it. The same doubt you have, is the same doubt many professionals have. The difference is that the professionals have more experience in confronting and dealing with doubt and have learned how to push past it.
