PI2014 #986 – Congress Doesn’t Make Pencils ASK A HORSE “Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws.” ~ Frederick Bastiat Saturday, December 13th 2014 Liberty Lovers, brillig/debt_clock: Every American Citizen Now Owes The (federal) State $56,331. “Concentrated power is not rendered harmless by the good intentions of those who create it.” ~ Milton Friedman Dr. Walter Williams, former Economics Chair, George Mason University, asks: “How many people does it take to make a pencil?” Dr. Williams’ related discussion points out it is nonsense to allow ‘government’ (“The State”) authority without accountability. “Bad laws are the worst sort of tyranny.” ~ Edmund Burke Congress Doesn’t Make Pencils. Legislators, though, are quick to impose all manner of regulations on pencil-makers, regardless whether resulting pencils meet needs of pencil buyers and pencil users. And - - - regardless pencil-making regulations cost. “The challenge is always before us. Whenever we lose sight of the principles that mattered to our founders we are in trouble.” ~ Jesse Helms “We, the American People” are sheer Lemmings to allow ‘government’ (“State”) to impose costly regulations on American business. Resisting burdensome costly regulations, however, is lambasted by critics… who argue regulations save lives and protect buyers. “Freedom is hammered out on the anvil of discussion, debate, and dissent.” ~ Hubert H. Humphrey Regulatory Proliferation Would Lessen exponentially if those who write and impose regulations were responsible for litigation awards rendered when courts found regulations insufficient to prevent harm or damage. People know not to walk in front of freight trains. “An argument fatal to the communist theory is suggested by the fact that a desire for property is one of the elements of our nature.” ~ Herbert Spencer People Intending To Live In Liberty don’t allow legislators – or other public officials within These United States of America, to permit federal authorities or courts to define or limit their 10th Amendment powers beyond specific Constitutional constraint. They surrender neither their property nor their sovereignty. Stop and Think It’s your property, not “State” property.
