PICKING AND CHOOSING YOUR NUTRITION BATTLES. Some of the things - TopicsExpress

PICKING AND CHOOSING YOUR NUTRITION BATTLES. Some of the things we do in the name of dieting are straight up irrational. One thing we do is what Jade and I jokingly coined The Banana Effect. Essentially, this happens when we vow to forgo moderately healthy foods (like bananas) because they are not considered ideal and then we try to white-knuckle our way through suuuuuper strict plans. Plans that dont include things like fruit, dairy or clean starches because they arent part of perfect eating, and then because of that, we end up more ravenous and with insatiable cravings LATER, which causes us to dive headfirst into an entire pan of brownies. Perfect eating is impossible. Its also an illusion. So picking and choosing your nutrition battles and being *preemptive* is key. Can you see how *not* allowing yourself moderately healthy foods because they are not considered perfect can come back to bite you in the ass later? I used to do this all the time! I cant eat fruit because its too much sugar! or Im going low-carb so no starches at all--only protein and veggies! Its normal to do this, and of course we have the best intentions when we get started. But youll never win a battle of wills against your bodys innate response to deprivation: overindulgence. Willpower gives out eventually. And deprivation leads to indulgence. It never fails, whether its tomorrow, next month or in 12 weeks after your harness all your willpower for the next Magic Meal Plan and gain all the weight back. Instead, could you consider incorporating small nutritional gimmes along the way, so that you never reach the point of needing or wanting the really, really bad crap? My advice: eat the banana :)
