PISUKI South-West Lunch. Warm thanks to Germaine Diaux for permission to share her video of Walkabout long Chinatown which was a great hit! And to all the performers L. to R. Rotee Walsh (Kiribati), Avira Harding (Kiribati/Solomon Islands), Jan Penny (on the uke, from PNG) and Beta Turpin (Kiribati.) Wakabauti long Chinatown, or Wakabaot Long Saenataon is perhaps the best known folksong from Solomon Islands. The government of Solomon Islands describes it as the national song of not only Solomon Islands, but also of Melanesia as a whole. Written in the 1960s by Edwin Sitori. The song is now also part of the popular cultures of Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu. More here + the lyrics: solomonencyclopaedia.net/biogs/E000335b.htm
