PIU Rugby in School Program winds down By Joe Elijah The 9 schools participating under the Pacific In Union school program will play their grand finals this weekend. After 6 weeks of intensive competition of rugby union, the organisers of the PIU program are satisfied that the program served its purpose by moulding, training and equipping the children with new skills and now urge the children to move on to the next level of their lives. PIU Programs Manager, Mr. Kelly Havara in expressing his organising committee’s satisfaction said, from the feed back this year, the PIU program will be extended to other schools in the three Regions and is expected to be more competitive and more challenging for his Executives. Mr Havara added that although he would very much like the program to proceed to the next level, he is appealing to Business Houses, individuals and corporate companies to throw something back to the community by way of providing sponsorship to the many schools in Bougainville who are yet to be signed on and to take ownership of the program. Pacific Industries who are the major sponsors of the PIU program said they are satisfied and happy their sponsorship package was put to good use by the participating schools in the Buka District. PI Regional Manager Mr Nigel Wong says he would like to see more schools participate in a worthwhile sports next year, also welcoming any sponsors to join his company develop more Human Resources through sports in Bougainville. This week end grand final is expected to draw in many supporters from the participating schools, their Sports Coordinators and their parents. Ends
