PJ and I had the unfortunate experience to have to follow behind an obviously drunk as a skunk driver, all the way from Mt. Barker to Strathalbyn this evening...what a horror of a trip that was. It was sickening to have to sit there and have to watch to see if he was either going to run off the road and smash himself into a tree, or go the other way and hit the oncoming traffic! We could not over-take him because he had so many cars in front of him and on the Wistow to Strath Rd, there is not a lot of places, where you can overtake....it was sheer hell. When it became too much for us, PJ dialled 000 and put it on speaker and I spoke to the Police and we trailed him into Strath for them but guess what? They could do NOTHING because the Police Station in Strathalbyn was un-manned! When he stopped at the Public Toilet to take a whizz, the officer on the phone even had us park and give her a description of him etc but she was ham-strung because there was not a Police Officer in town to come and get him! How bloody ridiculous is that????????? Maybe he had been at a Melbourne Cup function or something who knows but how could anyone let a person that drunk get in a car and drive? It was sheer torture for 45 mins, watching someone veer so violently across the lane, PJ and I were absolutely stressed to the max! Horrible thing to bloody see and it is indecent that a town of Strathalbyns size has no Police there full bloody time. An absolute disgrace.
