PK Today I have seen Director Rajkumar Hirani’s PK. It is sheer cinematic brilliance reflective of Hirani’s artistic genius. Now without going into the details of the film as a critic I would simply focus on the central idea which revolves around the multi-billion rupee enterprise called religion and exploitation by a few in the name of Bhagwan, Allah, God ; so on and so forth. Just look at shrines, temples and other holy places belonging to tens of hundreds of sects and creeds collecting tons of money which is then consumed by a few. And then there are so-called “holy” mullahs and pundits, peers and Khuddams who are taking full advantage of our ignorance and fear, desires and expectations- the uncertainty of afterlife. And there are professional preachers who are fleecing the weak. During Muharram, the month of Rabi-ul-awwal and other “holy” occasions these “traders” appear in the market and make millions. Finally, there are those who brainwash the young and innocent who are even prepared to lay down their lives as suicide bombers in the name of God. The film is a must watch for everybody. Its underlying theme is humanism. It targets stereotypes and blasts molvis, pundits, and priests who divide humans in the name of religion and then exploit them for monetary gains. The greatest threat to all these “traders” is rationality and scientific thought which is fast growing. Pk is one such attempt. My salute to Rajkumar Hirani and Amir Khan for creating a masterpiece!
