PK is a film with some story and a lot of messages. Sometimes the messages become heavier than the story. That apart, PK as you already know is very entertaining and a fun filled satire on religion, God and godmen. Aamir Khan, playing the innocent boyish alien, seeing this world from an outsider’s eye, cannot understand why this planet has different religions and how people’s religions and which God they will follow are determined. He picks up a human child and tries to see where the name of the religion is stamped on a human body. Aamir’s role reminded me of my father’s role. My father Prabir Ghosh has throughout his life (through his movement and books) tried to establish the uselessness of religion and tried to open people’s eye about the ridiculousness of blind faith and following anything related to religion and God without questioning why you are doing what you are being told to do. In my household, since my childhood we have never worshipped any God, nor prayed to any God during troubled times or happy times, nor followed any religion; and never felt it necessary too. I and my family have never gone to any temple, church, mosque or gurdwara except for the interest in photographing the good architecture. My son writes ‘humanist’ in his school diary and school records, where he has to mention religion because he follows none. He believes this world would have been much better if we were not divided by unnecessary divisions of religion. We eat all types of food that are a taboo in different religions if they are tasty. I find all godmen and religious leaders disgusting, who are mere businessmen who can talk well like professional motivators and make money utilizing timid people’s religious sentiment and fear towards religion. I insist all my friends who are God fearing, who waste their money, time and energy in pleasing their God, godmen, gurus and religion, to please go watch this movie. I am not sure if it will be an eye opener for you, but you will surely enjoy Aamir Khan’s Mr. Bean like acting, Anushka’s new look, the good locations of Belgium and Rajasthan. Rajkumar Hirani, the director and producer had exchanged several mails with my father Prabir Ghosh some 4 years back and told my father he wanted to make a movie on the subject of religion, blind faith, Gods and godmen. He had wanted to know more about my father’s philosophy and movement. I would love to show this movie to my father, who had said since 1985, what this movie has to say in 2014.
