PLACEMENTS CONFUSION CLEARED HERE. Dear Juniors, We Seniors - TopicsExpress

PLACEMENTS CONFUSION CLEARED HERE. Dear Juniors, We Seniors have tried to answer some of the following questions based on our experience. Questions like- 1. What are the placements like in this college? 2. Does finance have better placements or marketing? 3. What is the average pay package? 4. Will I get placed? 5. Does this IBS have better placements or this one? 6. How many students are placed? 7. How many students are not placed? 8. Which IBS has the hottest girls? (kidding!) First of all you’re asking the wrong questions. You should not be asking anyone this – Will I get placed? – except yourself. Instead you should be asking “What do I have as a skill set for someone to hire me?” “What value addition does my employment offer to my boss?” By asking any of the 7 aforementioned naive questions you’re already setting yourself up for a misguided attempt at an MBA and potential failure at placements. However, these questions will lend some perspective – 1. Will I actually read the points below or just skim through them because it might just turn out to be a load of total camel-shit? (kidding again xD ^_^ ) 2. Will an MBA really bring me a step closer to a career and the job profile that I want? 3. Am I an analytical and number’s guy or a creative and people’s person or someone else? 4. Do my communication skills suck? 5. Have I done anything prior to joining this MBA that will count as a meaningful experience and be a star on my resume? 6. If not, then what will I do and how willing am I to acquire a new skill set once I’m pursuing the MBA? 7. What is ROI to me – 7 ya 10 ya 12 lakh ki naukri? OR acquiring a career in my area of interest which will generate loads of cash and of course female courtship (:P) 3-4 years down the line? 8. How do I look at placements – a survival competition against 1000 other people OR as an event that I will succeed at for sure given that I offer intense value addition, results and business to my potential employers? 9. How does my skill set differentiate me from the rest of my colleagues? 10. Do I even have a skill set? 11. Should my choice of college and placement forecasting come via some vague encouragement from a group of any random people from the said college OR becauseI AM CONFIDENT IN MY OWN BEING that during a period of an year I’ll mould myself into someone who is knowledgeable, intellectual and has good communication skills which can be effectively reproduced during interviews? 12. Did I honestly, without a shroud of ego, truthfully reply to each of the above questions about me? So guys and gals, when you do come over here or anyplace there – remember to differentiate yourself not by your mark sheet alone but by a varied skill set and the capacity to produce original ideas. Go write a blog, play a sport, start an online community, start a club, join a club, read more, socialize more and of course DRINK UP! :)
