PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (Building Focused) (Two Year Contract) The Corporation of the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands is situated in the County of Leeds and Grenville, adjacent to the City of Kingston. Leeds and the Thousand Islands is a rural municipality with a large number of waterfront properties and a permanent population of 9,435, which increases to approximately 12,000 in the summer months. Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development, the Planning and Development Administrative Assistant will provide a variety of administrative and clerical support services predominately for the Building functions of the Planning and Development Department. Performing a variety of administrative, research, coordinating and logistical services in support of the operations of the Department, the Administrative Assistant contributes to the effectiveness of the Department as a whole. The Administrative Assistant manages the day-to-day operational and administrative activities of the supervisor and the Department by organizing the incoming flow of work, prioritizing incoming requests, maintaining a control system, and following-up to ensure timely response. Involves screening of correspondence, responding to requests for information, and drafting written responses to general enquires. Candidates will have a Secondary School Diploma along with a community college diploma in administration or clerical study or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience as well as comprehensive knowledge of the municipal environment with a minimum of two (2) years experience in a municipal office environment setting. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and as well as database and GIS systems is required. Successful completion of the Municipal Administration Program as offered by AMCTO would be considered an asset. Candidates must have knowledge and understanding of basic building permit and planning application requirements and Township documents, including the Official Plan, Zoning By-Law, and Building Code.
