PLAY OUT OF HARMS WAY. Last Friday I attended our District’s academic day and I must say primary schools took more awards than high schools. During the morning hours of the same day, I took a walk to a nearby field where I found some boys looking after cows and with them were four dogs. One dog looked fierce and the biggest but never had a tail. One boy told me the dog lost its tail when a car ran over it. Just then three other dogs appeared with other boys and there seemed to be bad blood between the different groups’ of dogs. At that moment the boys forgot my presence as each side encouraged their dogs to a fight. The three dogs seemed quite courageous and barked fiercely. Then I noted that the dog without a tail took off unnoticed in high speed and never waited to be confronted by the closing three dogs. Then the dogs chased each other to the bush with one group of boys cerebrating in laughter. I asked the boys why the dog without the tail could not throw a fight and they told me that a dog’s tail means a lot. It gives a dog perfect balance when running; it indicates the state of the dog in that when held up high the dog is courageous, joyous and in good shape while a dog with its tail down means cowardice. A tail dictates authority and supremacy by a dog. The boys told me that the dog without a tail stands no chance of escaping if chased by opponents and the only way to avoid conflict is to leave creating a safer distance prior to a chase. Why should you hang on there, knowing very well you don’t have a tail; knowing that you don’t stand a chance, at some point you got to avoid humiliation, debts and arguments by leaving early, by keeping quiet, by being who you are, by living at your means and being content with what you have. Soon you will notice your tail grow, you will feel it, but until then play out of harms way keeping in your mind that “it’s not the size of the dog in a fight that matters but the size of fight in the dog”. And if you have a tail; keep it high this week with courage, joy and thank God for it.
