PLEA: BLOOD, PLATELETS NEEDED Press release from Mississippi Blood Services FLOWOOD, Miss. – There is a need for blood and platelets. Due to the holidays and weather, Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) is now at an extremely low inventory and is asking donors to come in and roll up their sleeves to help boost the blood supply. People of all blood types are needed to come in and donate whole blood, double red cells and platelets. Most patients needing blood do not have the luxury of time. The time to donate is before it is needed — but every day patients throughout Mississippi and the surrounding area need blood products. MBS wants to remind donors that there is a two-day processing time between the donation and when blood can be released for transfusion. Yes, it’s cold outside. Maybe you’re a longtime donor who has put off donating because of the weather or maybe you’ve never donated blood before, but right now we need you to take a little time, bundle up and come in to donate blood. Your donation can literally mean the difference between life and death for someone else. There is no substitute for human blood.
