PLEASE - Make calls and e-mails today BEFORE 4 pm TODAY to help the cats of VA - HOUSE AG SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING – MONDAY 1/26 AT 4 PM – 7TH FLOOR WEST CONFERENCE ROOM HB 1586 - TNR As amended, this bill now presents no legal obstacles for volunteers to participate in TNR programs. We SUPPORT this bill. TNR is vital to humanely managing feral and outdoor kitties in Virginia. To stop it will be tragic. HB 1565 – Trapping Animals This bill says that if an Animal Control Officer (ACO) receives a complaint from a property owner about an animal on his/her property, the ACO must trap the animal. This would remove the discretion of ACO’s to trap (or not) when a citizen complains about community cats. Most ACO’s are not racing to trap cats, many work diligently in neighborhoods to resolve such complaints but that will no longer be an option if this bill passes as written. You should not only let the House Ag Committee members know you OPPOSE this bill, you ask your local leaders to make their disapproval of it known as well. This could have a huge impact on the capacity of Animal Control and local shelters.
