PLEASE CONSIDER: Oklahoma is a diverse state. We are rural and we are urban. Many of our educational issues are the same, but many are not. I AM THE ONLY CANDIDATE WHO HAS WORKED IN BOTH RURAL AND URBAN SCHOOL DISTRICTS. I understand the issues of a diverse population and I understand the challenges of a rural community. I have taught in both rural and urban schools. I am a product of rural schools. I can articulate the challenges of both to policy holders because I have first-hand knowledge. One size does not fit all. Among other things, I learned to speak in 4-H. As a high school student I was a state FHA officer. As a teacher, I was a 4-H leader. I worked in crop fields from sun up until sun down. I have helped organize pie suppers to raise money for the school. I understand that poverty is different in the urban and rural areas. I understand the difficulty in being able to offer advance courses in rural areas and the difficulty of creating a sense of community for children in urban areas. The needs of children in ALL our communities must be understood by the next State Superintendent of Public Instruction. These are experiences that cant be taught or learned second hand. I would appreciate your vote on August 26th if you think this kind of experience matters.
