PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN - A MESSAGE FROM SISTER Hanan Chehata It’s time I started to look for a job! This Halloween will mark the one year anniversary since my family and I lost our home and started our lives over. I quit my job a while before that to look after mum, and as much as I have loved the time we have spent together, the petty £4/5000 a year that the government pays you for being a carer for a disabled family member is obviously not going to be nearly enough to help me support myself or my family. Ideally I’m looking to continue staying at home to help care for mum and so would like to find some work writing or doing research from home. If anyone knows of any steady home-based jobs like that please do let me know. In brief, at my last job as Press Officer for the Middle East Monitor I wrote well over 100 articles/reports/interviews on Palestine. I’ve been published in the New Statesman, the Journal of Race and Class, Al-Jazeera on-line etc.. I’ve been part of a parliamentary delegation to Palestine, I’ve been on a convoy to Gaza, and have traveled extensively for work. I’ve done interviews about Palestine for Al-Jazeera (Arabic and English), Sky News, Islam Channel, Press TV etc.. I have a Degree in law, a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice and a PhD. My doctoral dissertation was a penological critique of the Christian and Islamic justifications for capital punishment. I’ve done a fair amount of volunteer work with charities and groups focusing on issues like homelessness, domestic violence, disability, and poverty, and I have worked with vulnerable people for many years. If anyone has, or knows of, any suitable jobs available I can send my CV, more background info., references etc.. Worst case scenario, if I can’t find a home-based job I’ll be looking for a “real” office job instead (London based) so please send me any info. on those too :) (Ideally the only thing I would like to avoid is any form of public speaking and on-camera work.)
