PLEASE HELP NEWTON! On Thursday we were contacted about this poor old guy who was picked up as a stray in Midland. Dick and Dianne Carlson literally came to the rescue, did a 700 plus mile round trip and gave this little guy a ride to freedom. He was admitted to the Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin where he was examined and immediately started on pain meds, antibiotics and eye medication. He has a severe ulceration and infection of his right eye. He was transferred to Westlake Animal Hospital this afternoon. He not only has a severe eye issue but he has severely distorted and bowed rear legs from luxated patellas, degenerative joint disease and arthritis. He has multiple skin tumors and a severely infected mouth with mobile teeth. He was very dirty and his nails were overgrown. He will have additional testing on his eye on Monday to determine if he will need to have his eye removed. Today for the first time probably in his entire life he was treated to a full pug spa by Signe. He had his nails trimmed, a medicated bath with soothing conditioner, his ears cleaned, his teeth brushed and a blow dry. Once he was done and wrapped in his warm towels he seemed to relax for the first time since he was pulled from the streets of Midland. Thanks to everyone involved especially Trina Eilers, our AWESOME rescue coordinator, who made his release and transfer happen and to the Carlsons who prevented him from spending one more minute than he had to in jail.
