PLEASE JOIN US TO DISCUSS PETITION UPDATES TO SAVE THE ENDANGERED FOREST IN SOUTH FLORIDA AT FIU FOLLOWING SUNDAYS TROPICAL AUDUBONS ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE: Subject: Team Meeting to Update Petition Signers at FIU Graham Center this Sunday at 4pm Dear Petition Signers, We thank you for supporting our petition to STOP the Endangered Rock Pinelands of South Florida from being developed by Ram Realty. A few of you have asked for updates, and we wanted to share with you more details at our upcoming meeting Sunday, October 12th at 4pm at FIUs Graham Center. We look forward to seeing you there! Please see details below. One of the latest developments came last week when we learned Miami-Dade will not accept any land developed at the petition site because of the Federal Management Requirements for an endangered habitat. Though this is good news, and we are praying that its for real and that the rest of the deal starts unraveling too - we must better understand our legal course of action should we need to proceed escalating this to a Federal level filing a lawsuit. Though we are hoping we wont have to, our united teams are seriously invested and are prepared to do what it takes to save this land from development - making it a landmark case for other Endangered Forests around the world. With the wonderful timing of the Climate March Sept 21st, Worldwide Animal Day October 4th and UN white papers showing how DEFORESTATION is directly linked to Climate Change, petitions like ours cannot be ignored! Our 9/11 meeting in Kendall allowed South Florida homeowners in the area to learn more about what is at stake from our environmentalists and subject matter expert scientists who spoke and shared their concerns. We also learned more about the 250 or so endangered species who call this Forest home, including our beloved Florida Panther (only approximately 100 panthers left today in Florida!) With only 2% RockPineland left in Florida and the world - we really need to save it! Homeowners who attended were able to speak face to face with Peter Cummings of Ram Realty who dealt with hundreds of upset homeowners opposed to the build. We too, shared our opposition to the build (on behalf of the Earth Guardians United petition) and joined forces with more organizations/pro land conservationists and gathered more support together for our petition! (PLEASE SEE OTHER NEWSLETTER FOR A SUMMARY OF THIS 9/11 Kendall Town Meeting). For our EARTH GUARDIANS UNITED (PRO LAND CONSERVATION) meeting this Sunday, our intention is to meet collectively with these proland conservation groups weve joinced forces with to better understand our options and to plan our groups next steps strategy. This meeting will take place directly following the Tropical Audubons Environmental Leadership Conference. For those of you who are PRO LAND CONSERVATION, and supportive of our project and petition, you are welcome to attend our meeting. We have combined our efforts with several petition signees who have the same petitions calling to protect the Endangered RockPineland Forest on Coral Reef from being developed. So far we have 9,400 signatures with a call to action in our petition. Combined, we have collectivley over 90,000 Signatures for the same petition!!!! This does not include the other petitions specifically opposed to the development of a Walmart build both at the Richmond Complex/Coral Reef site) and Midtown who will also be joining our efforts on Sunday to plan our group strategy. This makes for a HUGE amount of support to protect our endangered forest!!!! Please invite your friends and family to join us at this informational gathering and strategy meeting. We have various subject matter experts in land conservation involved including the Tropical Audubon Society, South Florida Wildlife Conservation, Everglades Law, Floridas own Emmy Award winning investigative reporter Al Sunshine who is a concerned homeowner, Grant Stern of the Stop the Midtown Walmart petition, politicians, legal experts along with several others collectively participating in our pro land conservation efforts outlined in this petition. We will be providing the latest updates and speak with everyone about our options for next steps.. including potential legal action (if needed) to stop the development. We also welcome you to invite non environmentalists to support our efforts to stop this project due to other reasons directly impacting citizens. They include: already over congested traffic in the area, unwanted retailers/shopping mall chains destroying smaller businesses, statistics showing brick and mortar chains like Walmart devalue property and take away jobs for every low-paying job they create,EXPENSIVE hidden costs related to this project that will cause homeowners to pay hidden costs, i.e., higher taxes with homeowners paying for paving roads/traffic repairs needed to accommodate growth in an already over-populated area, health concerns from deforestation (long term consequences) and eventual devalutation of homeowners property with no forest/wildlife left. These issues add up and translate into a lot of support for our pro Land Conservation efforts to STOP the development of this project.!!! On Behalf of all the Earth Guardians United.. We Thank you for your Support! See you Sunday! Kindest Regards, Leslye Jacobs MEETING DATE: Sunday, October 12 at 4pm MEETING LOCATION: The Graham Conference Center at Florida International University (FIU) The address is: 11200 SW 8th Street GC 1210 Miami Fl, 33199 PARKING: Parking is Free and there is a Parking lot next to the Conference Center off Southwest 8th Street and SW 112 Avenue. https://grahamcenter.fiu.edu/about-us/comments-suggestions/
