PLEASE KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN IN YOUR OWN AREA AND ESPECIALLY IN QUOILE/KILLYLEAGH/KILLINCHY AREA Link to Daily Mirror article below. Message from a NISNTAC supporter: This cruelty took place somewhere during a 24 hour period from Saturday 23rd - Sunday 24th August. This fox was deliberately dumped in a black bin bag a short distance down a side road off the main Killyleagh to Balloo road. It has been reported to the police as an incident and is currently being passed back to the PSNI Wildlife Liaison Officer for further investigation. This fox has clearly been killed by a dog. It is also clear that the person or persons involved felt that what they had done was wrong as this poor animal has been bagged, driven out in a car and thrown down a side road in order to put some distance between the evidence and the perceived crime. Whilst it is not illegal to hunt with hounds in Northern Ireland unfortunately (it is illegal everywhere else), deliberately causing cruelty and suffering to any animal IS ILLEGAL and people can be arrested and prosecuted. The plastic bag had mud on it and the body of the animal was still warm. Someone knows who did this. They are likely to be from the Killinchy, Downpatrick or Killyleagh areas. And this behaviour suggests it is sadly, but highly likely that they are involved in other cruelty crimes. If you know of anyone committing a wildlife cruelty crime or a domestic one, or you have more information on this incident, contact the USPCA or the confidential PSNI Crimestoppers helpline: 0800 555 111. This type of cruelty crime involving the deliberate persecution of young vulnerable, naive and not fully developed foxes and fox cubs in Northern Ireland was first publicised on social media a couple of months ago. It has now come to County Down. County Down countryside residents do not want their wildlife persecuted in this way. It is unnatural and against the countryside way of doing things. Whoever did this needs to be stopped. Please share. USPCA HELPLINE: 028 3025 1000 PSNI: 101 (request an incident number and that the info is sent back to the PSNI Wildlife Liaison Officer).
