PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE The Flint Neighborhood Association will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, in the Community Resource Room at the Mary Fonseca Elementary School, 160 Wall Street, Fall River. The meeting will begin at 6:30 PM and will include the monthly report by the Fall River Police Department, an update on the purchase by the Association of the Davol School, the upgrades at Lafayette Park that include fence painting by work crews of the Department of Corrections, and new poles and lights for the baseball field. The Association will be requesting that the City Council recognize Dean Street as a Public Way to facilitate access to the Father Travassos Playground. The city is awaiting state grants for a new soccer field for Father Travassos and the Association is working on Receiving funding for a new playground, basketball and volleyball courts, a water park and a Veterans’ Memorial. The Association will hold tagging events on successive Saturdays, August 24th and 31st, where volunteers will be taking donations from motorists at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Pleasant Street between 9 AM and 6 PM. There will be a clean-up of the Father Travassos Playground & Park on Sunday, September 29, 2013, from 9 AM to 12 PM. The Association’s annual Halloween excursion to Salem, MA will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2013. The cost is $15 per person and the coach bus will leave Fall River from the corner of Cash and Pleasant Streets at 1 PM and return at 10 PM. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and must be purchased by Saturday, October 12, 2013 and can be picked up at Nelly’s Boutique, 1376 Peasant Street, or by calling Carlos Cesar at 774-526-2221. The Association will hold its annual New York City Christmas trip on Sunday, December 8, 2013, with coach buses leaving from Cash and Pleasant Streets at 6 AM and returning at 11 PM. The cost is $50 per person and includes coffee and donuts and bingo games with prizes on the way to and from New York City. All residents are urged to attend all the different events sponsored by the Flint Neighborhood Association, especially those citizens who reside within the Association borders: from Locust Street to the North, Robeson & 13th Streets to the West, North Eastern and Eastern Avenues to the East and Route 195 to the South.
