PLEASE NOTE: If you see smoke coming from Goshen College campus, it is a part of sustainability events they are holding today. The school issued the following release -- Assuming the weather cooperates, a controlled burn will take place today (Friday) afternoon beginning around 1 p.m. The burn will begin in the field between the Music Center and the physical plant. If time allows and the conditions are good, they may also burn a portion of the area south of Newcomer Center. Students will also be planting trees on campus, part of the process of becoming a “tree campus,” meeting in the parking lot at the south end of campus. In recent years Goshen College has restored several acres of lawn to native landscaping. In order to promote this native landscape it is very helpful to simulate naturally occurring fires by establishing a controlled burn. Burns are beneficial in that they control weeds and help the natives become established.
