Forums and other sites are useful, but advice is frequently based on incomplete information about a case, and can potentially put foreign residents at risk when the information is out of date or does not apply to that case. As with government agencies in most countries, the NIA will not accept ignorance of the law as an excuse where work permit violations are concerned. As such, it is always best to go straight to the source for the most complete and accurate information. The 「Living in Taiwan」 website provides the most accurate information available online, though we acknowledge that the information is not always straightforward to the reader. If in doubt, you can contact the NIA directly via the numbers in the link below to clarify any parts of the law that are confusing. Its also a good idea to make a note of the name of any NIA officer you speak with, as well as the responses you receive, so you can reference this information should you encounter any legal troubles stemming from NIA-provided information.
