PLEASE PLAN TO COME TO THE AMERICAN LEGION HALL THIS SATURDAY TO HEAR OUR STUDENTS COMPETE IN THIS YEARS AMERICAN LEGION ORATORICAL COMPETITION. THIS IS A NATIONAL COMPETITION. American Legion Post #403 News The American Legion Post 403 Oratorical Contest American Legion Post #403 is holding their Tenth (10) annual Post Oratorical Contest this Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 9 a.m. at the Veteran’s Reception Center / Community / Legion building at 910 Main Street in Van Meter – one block east of the Wells Fargo Bank. Last year’s Post winner, Nathan Walton, advanced through Post, county, district, area, and American Legion state competitions and represented our Post very admirably at the National American Legion Contest held each year in Indianapolis, Indiana. At this Post level of completion, local High School students will be giving speeches they have prepared relating to the U.S. Constitution and its’ Amendments. Coffee, punch, and cookies will be provided at the judges’ intermission break. We would like to encourage your attendance as these students make their interpretations on aspects of the U.S. Constitution and its’ Amendments. Students will be vying for $2100 in scholarship dollars – winners will be announced at the conclusion of the contest on Saturday. The Contest starts at 9:00 a.m. Please plan to attend and show support for our local area youth as they develop their personal skills as students and future voting citizens of our Country. FREE patriotic stickers, 12 inch Presidential rulers, 6 inch patriotic rulers/bookmarks, and colorful 2 7/8 X 4 7/8 flags will be handed out at the judges intermission break as stocking stuffer items for as long as supplies last. Hope to see you Saturday. American Legion Post #403 Post Goals 1. Recognition, support, and fellowship to all people who have honorably served in the armed forces. 2. Identify community activities or projects that we can provide support in monetary or volunteer assistance to enhance our environment and bring recognition to Post #403. 3. Provide educational opportunity to our youth so they may better understand the meaning of serving our country and community.
