PLEASE READ AND SHARE. LET US DEMONSTRATE AND DEMAND! Dear fellow Zamboanguenos, Lat night after talking to a friend conservationist and listening to his explanation about Paletada which is a restoration process involving lime and sand to plaster and prevent further deterioration of bricks in heritage sites in the Philippines, I was almost convinced amidst the burning fury that I still felt, after seeing for myself the monstrous structure that has become of our historic Fort Pilar inner walls, that perhaps I was ignorant and lacked orientation about the subject and better stopped commenting about it unless I wanted to end up in shame in the end. Early this morning, I decided to check again on the subject Paletada hoping that I will be further convinced that I am wrong. I zoomed in on photos of heritage structures that have been subjected to paletada and started comparing them to what has become of our 2 fort walls which were subjected to paletada too. Upon close scrutiny, I realized that the paletada done on the other structures were more acceptable since edges still appeared in the finished surface. Those structures, in spite the paletada work and paint still revealed identity of that being very old or antique. Now those other heritage sites did not pocess any semblance to what they have done to our fort walls which upon inspection by anyone would reveal a smooth surface similar to the surfaces of newly constructed buildings! Infact, if you go and check their work now, you will no longer feel that its a heritage building! WMSUs Education Department building even looks older in spite the fact that it was built centuries centuries later than the fort. Compare WMSU Building to the Fort now to understand exactly what I mean. After so much weighing, it has come down to one thing. Will we allow them to do the same paletada on the remaining wings -North and West? We must stop them! We should do it a.s.a.p. We have strong reasons to do so: 1. The Paletada done on our walls was not accurately executed. They hurriedly plastered the entirety of the bricks making it smooth like a cement wall of a new building. 2. People of Zamboanga were not consulted. This site represents our past. It belongs to our ancestors. We Zamboanguenos both Christians and Muslims should have been consulted beforehand as it is our heritage thats affected. Let us therefore demand for explanation and press on that paletada works on the remaining walls be stopped immediately untill further consultation by the National Museum with the people of Zamboanga City. We need to urgently do this to save the remaining walls modernization!!! With suggestions of fb friends, I am requesting all concerned Zamboanguenos to gather in front of the National Museum gate at Fort Pilar and demonstrate peacefully our demands by lighting candles in front of the gate starting at 6pm tomorrow, Monday, October 27. Let us show them that we are not happy with their paletada work on our fort walls and demand that they dont proceed working on our remaining fort inner walls untill a consultation is held with concerned residents of Zamboanga by the National Museum. PLEASE SHARE AND REQUEST OTHERS TO PARTICIPATE IN LIGHTING CANDLES. GOD BLESS ZAMBOANGA! VP Elago Concerned Resident of Zamboanga City
