Paul’s First Letter to Timothy — Chapter 3 3:1 It is true to say that anyone who hopes to become a leader wants a good thing. 3:2 The leader must be beyond reproach, the husband of one wife, self-controlled, sensible, thoughtful, hospitable, good at teaching, 3:3 not a heavy drinker, not violent, but gentle, not argumentative, not greedy for money. 3:4 He must be someone who manages his own house well, with children who are obedient and respectful, 3:5 because if a man does not know how to manage his own house, how will he take care of God’s church? 3:6 He should not be a new convert, in case he becomes arrogant and falls into the devil’s damnation. 3:7 He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not be discredited and trapped by the devil. 3:8 Church officers must also be respectable people, not pretenders, not heavy drinkers, not greedy for money,
