PLEASE READ, PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND WHY TO NEVER, EVER PLACE A FURBABY ON CRAIGSLIST. !!THE DANGERS OF ANIMALS AND CRAIGS LIST!! Following is information on the dangers of putting your pets up on Craigs List. These were put together by our friend at California-based rescue group Camp Cocker Rescue https://facebook/CampCockerRescue?fref=ts. PLEASE READ AND SHARE!!! Remember, the sale of puppies on Craigs List is forbidden by Craigs List rules (you can flag any puppies for sale ads on Craigs list) The reason you want to flag any puppy breeder ads on Craigs List is to try eliminate their free forum to reach consumers. Also, just to discourage backyard breeders in general. No legitimate breeder is selling puppies on Craigs List. IMPORTANT: When pet owners offer a free dog on Craigs List, this attracts FOUR types of high risk offers. FIRST of course is that dog fighting rings always want small fluffy dogs to use for bait. They use these little dogs to train the fighter dogs to attack, before moving them up to actual pit bulls to attack. So people often think that if they are giving away their little poodle or chihauhua or cocker, that these are not dogs that will be attractive to dog fighting rings - but wrong, they are highly valuable to dog fighting rings. SECOND are people who are called bunchers. These people pose as loving adopters to go and get free dogs They collect the dogs in crates, often stored in a garage or a workshop, until they have a bunch that they can sell in bulk to an animal dealer. An animal dealer has contracts with various places that test on animals, factories, schools, they even can ship the animals out of the country for animal testing use. The bunchers can collect maybe $25 an animal, the dealers can collect up to $100 an animal. THIRD are animal hoarders. What they do to animals is horrific. They are often emaciated, have had to fight for food, their nails are grown so long that they can barely walk because the nails have grown into the skin, they have major medical problems that the hoarder has not taken care of, they are filthy dirty, flea infested, bellies full of worms. FOURTH are animal brokers. These are people that pose as rescuers and they do nothing of the sort. They primarily are looking for healthy young cute dogs that they can sell outside of a pet store or online. Animal brokers are the most dangerous to the rescue community because they represent themselves as rescuers and do nothing of the sort. They are simply gaming the system to profit One broker in Los Angeles has a very successful brokering business. What she does is comb Craigs List ads daily for free animals. She contacts the owners and tells them if they show up with their dog or cat at her adoption day (she does it every weekend in front of a pet store in Los Angeles) - that she will help them find a great new home for their pet. All of these pet owners show up thinking this is what animal rescue is like. They sit outside a pet store, the rescuer pitches their animals to anyone who shows up to adopt. Then when she makes a sale, she keeps the money, has the adopter (consumer) sign a contract releasing her of any liability. The pet owners think this is how animal rescue works, just sell your pet to the first buyer with no screening process whatsoever. The animal broker must make several thousand dollars every weekend, cash, tax free. She charges $200 for a cat, $300 for a dog and she moves at least five or six a day (she does it on Saturdays and Sundays) PLEASE DONT EVER PUT YOUR PET ON CRAIGS LIST AND PLEASE HELP RAISE AWARENESS SO THAT OTHERS DONT EITHER.
