PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE PRESS RELEASE: County of Kauai wrote: LĪHU‘E – An 8.2 magnitude earthquake off the coast of northern Chile this afternoon Based on all available data, a major tsunami is not expected to strike the State of Hawai‘i. However, sea level changes and strong currents may occur along all coasts that could be a hazard to swimmers and boaters as well as persons near the shore at beaches and in harbors and marinas. The threat may continue for several hours after the initial wave arrives. All beaches will be closed from 3 to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2 as a precaution.
