PLEASE READ THIS! A guy Ive known for over 20 years wrote this and I feel it needs to be shared. Perspective. Several of my brothers in law enforcement have shot and killed someone in the line of duty. These officers were of all different races and cultures. There were no high fives, no celebrations, just fear and worry on the part of the officers. And relief for us as their co-workers that we didnt have to bury another one of our brother or sisters. Relief that they survived and didnt get their badge pinned on the wall of honor with our other family members who died in the line of duty. But yet I read some of the ignorant comments I see some of you posting and I have to shake my head. Some of you are suggesting that white cops are out here trying to murder young black and Hispanic children, and suggesting that the rest of us just sit and watch and celebrate when this happens. Its offensive, its not true, and its just plain ignorant. I notice one major fact when I go on calls for service in some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the country, YOU KEYBOARD WARRIORS ARE NOT THERE! You are sitting in the comfort of your suburban homes judging us without facts. If you were there you would know that young black men are slaughtering each other in mass in these neighborhoods we work in and we are trying to stop it. But it doesnt seem to bother you when this happens. No sir, no t-shirts with hands up, no Facebook post, no nothing. Its hypocritical, and its not helpful. You know what would be helpful is if you came into some of theses neighborhoods and protested the drug dealers and murderers that are destroying whole communities. I am offering every single last one of you a ride-along so you can see what it is really like to be a police officer in the dangerous neighborhoods we work in. How can you comment on something you know nothing about? Do the ride-along, educate yourself, and I guarantee you your opinion will change.
