PLEASE READ! THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO EVERY PERSON AND EVERY SITUATION, BUT IT CERTAINLY MAY APPLY TO SOME!... MY THOUGHTS AND A PERSONAL TESTIMONY!!! Joel, brings us a message of empowerment!!! No matter what genes you may have inherited or what difficulties you may have encountered as you were growing up, it is up to you to break the cycle. Some people like to convince themselves they are victims as to convince themselves they do not need to do certain things to move on in life or they do not need to do much for themselves and others. They are always full of excuses and full of expectations from others, demanding more and more, without the ability to feel any gratitude or be able to recognize what others have done for them. Sometimes these are the people that have received more blessings or have had an easier time than the average fellow. This way of thinking is what actually has brought them to face an insurmountable amount of problems. They just concentrate on their needs and never consider the needs of others. They will go on through life with an ever increasing sense of entitlement. I say, when there is a will, there is a way, especially, if you bring God into the picture! MY HUSBAND AND I COME FROM SINGLE PARENT HOMES AND OUR MOMS FACED INCREDIBLE OBSTACLES AS WE WERE GROWING UP. AFTER LEAVING CUBA WITHOUT NOTHING, SHORTLY AFTER, THEY WERE DIVORCED. THANK GOD FOR MY MOM AND MOTHER-IN-LAW THAT INSISTED ON THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION AND BUILDING A FUTURE FOR OURSELVES. THIS IS ALSO THE MESSAGE WE TRIED TO CONVEY TO OUR CHILDREN. THANK GOD THAT WE WERE NEVER TOLD ABOUT THE DIFFICULT ODDS OF CHILDREN GROWING UP IN A SINGLE PARENT HOME OR OF CHILDREN OF DIVORCED PARENTS, THUS, WE WERE EMPOWERED. MY HUSBAND AND I WERE BOTH WORKING NON-STOP SINCE WE WERE 16 YEARS OLD AND HELPED OUR MOTHERS IN DIFFERENT WAYS. MY MOTHER-IN-LAW, EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF A DIVORCE, PUT HERSELF THROUGH COLLEGE, WHILE RAISING TWO CHILDREN BY HERSELF, AND VALIDATED HER PHARMACIST DEGREE. MY MOM WORKED AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF LONG HOURS, SOLD DESSERTS AND SOLD CLOTHING TO ALSO HELP OUR FAMILY WHO HAD JUST LEFT CUBA. WHEN MY MOM LOST HER JOB WITH ITT IN PUERTO RICO, MY INCOME AND HER SAVINGS IS WHAT CARRIED US THROUGH. I WAS GOING THROUGH COLLEGE AND WORKING, AND YET, I PAID MY OWN WAY THROUGH COLLEGE. WE LEFT PUERTO RICO AND THEN ARRIVED TO THIS COUNTRY WITHOUT JOBS. HOWEVER, WITH A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND HARD WORK MY MOM AND I MADE IT HERE, TOO! WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I GOT MARRIED WE TOTALLY STARTED FROM SCRATCH, AND AFTER 10 YEARS OF MARRIAGE, BROUGHT THREE CHILDREN INTO OUR HOME AND RAISED THEM WITH A LOT OF LOVE AND DEDICATION. WHEN I NEEDED TO STAY HOME TO HOMESCHOOL THEM, I STOPPED WORKING AND FOR EIGHT YEARS I WAS THEIR MOTHER, THEIR TEACHER, THEIR NURSE, THEIR MENTOR AND THEIR FRIEND, AND WE DID IT!!! I AM NOW RECEIVING A DISABILITY CHECK WHICH HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS, AND DEALING WITH A DIFFICULT CANCER, (THANK GOD FOR IMPROVEMENTS IN MY HEALTH CONDITION) AND YET, I AM LOOKING TO GO BACK TO WORK FULL TIME, GOD WILLING! AS I ALWAYS SAY, WHEN THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY!!! GOD BLESS ALL! Note: This reminds me of something I posted recently, that reads: IF IT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU, YOU WILL FIND A WAY. IF IT IS NOT IMPORTANT TO YOU, YOU WILL FIND AN EXCUSE.
